A 35-year-old banker identified as Adedoyin Odukoya, has been charged to court for r*pe.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday admitted the man to bail in the sum of N500, 000 for allegedly r*ping his girlfriend’s 19- year-old housemaid.

The Nation reports that Odukoya, who resides at Ketu, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of r*pe.

Magistrate Y.R Pinheiro, who gave the ruling, ordered the accused to produce two sureties in like sum.

Pinheiro said the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Mathew Akhaluode, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 9, 2016 at Olayinwola Str., Agege, Ikeja.

Akhaluode said the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of the housemaid.

The complainant said she was at home, when Odukoya came and told her that his girlfriend, who was her boss, had instructed him to drop a letter with her.

“The housemaid said that she expected Odukoya to leave after dropping the letter, but instead he told her to go and have her bath.

“The complainant said she confused but she decided to listen to him since he was a friend to her boss.

“The housemaid alleged that when she was coming out of the bathroom, she was shocked to see Odukoya waiting at the entrance.

“She said that the accused removed her towel, dragged her to the sitting room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

“The housemaid further explained that after the incident, she immediately called her boss on phone and narrated everything that had happened to her.

“The teenage housemaid said that her employer rushed home and quickly took her to a nearby hospital, where she was given medication to flush her system.

“The complainant said that the case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested and taken to the police station for further questioning,” he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Section 258 prescribes life imprisonment upon conviction for rape.

The case was adjourned until January 30 for mention.
