Buhari can still renominate Magu, says PCAC Secretary

The Secretary of the Presidential Committee Against Corruption( PCAC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, who spoke with our correspondent last night, said the government can still re-present Magu.

He said: “The committee has been receiving calls, enquiries and representations from concerned individuals and organizations on what actually happened in the Senate. We knew everything was politics.

“But the rejection of Magu is without impediments to his powers and functions as the Acting Chairman of the EFCC. He has been doing the same job in the last one year.

“There is no disputation that he can still continue to perform his statutory duties.”

Owasanoye confirmed that the government could re-present Magu as its nominee for EFCC chairman.

He added: “This is not the first time such a thing has happened. During the tenure of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the nomination of a former Minister of Education was rejected three times by the Senate  and he was re-presented by the same President.

“In this instance, President Buhari can still renominate Magu as EFCC chairman.”

A source at the Presidential Villa said: “The President is awaiting official communication from the Senate on why it rejected Magu. We want to know the factors behind their decision.

“It is when we get the official communication on the reasons for the decision of the Senate that we can react.”
