The federal government has agreed to pay arrears of N23billion owed Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for 2009 and 2010 as Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).
This was contained in a document of the resolution reached between Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions/Tetfund, ASUU, NUC, Federal Ministry of Education and other stakeholders dated 24 November, 2016,
a copy which was made available to our correspondent by the chairman of the Nasarawa State University chapter of ASUU, Dr. Ngharbu K’tso in Keffi.
It’s stated that, “the provisions on revitalization in the 2009 agreement, as amplified in the FGN/ASUU MoU of 2013, shall be
implemented,” and called for the immediate release of the fund to universities “as soon as they meet the Needs Assessment Intervention Fund conditions”.
The resolution also states that “The government offered to pay N1 billion monthly for six months, while the balance up to 2016 would be paid at the end of the forensic audit of universities accounts.
The resolution also urged federal government to resume its “quarterly release of N55 billion that would be ring-fenced for the purpose of massive injection of funds to deposition Nigeria universities.”
