13 killed in Katsina auto crash

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Tuesday confirmed that 13 persons died in a ghastly motor accident on Malumfashi-Dabai Road in Kafur local government area of Katsina State.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Alhaji Abdu Bagadawa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the accident occurred at Unguwar-Iliya village on Tuesday morning.

He said the accident involved a Volkswagen wagon, with registration number KAF 608 XA carrying 18 passengers and a trailer belonging to Dangote, registered TRN 130 XA, parked by the roadside.

Bagadawa said the Volkswagen had a tyre burst, which caused it to skid off the road and hit the parked trailer.

He told NAN that 13 persons died instantly, while five others sustained injuries.

The FRSC official  said the dead and injured victims were later taken to Malumfashi General Hospital in the area.
