The returning officer of Okrika Ogu/ Bolo federal constituency in Rivers State has declared Gogo Tamuno of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner in election held on Saturday.
The declaration which was made at exactly 2:20am saw the returning officer who was identified as Okwulehie Ikechukwu,announcing that Tamuno polled a total of 11,668 votes to defeat Maureen Tamuno of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 5,995 votes.
He explained that he was unable to declare the result at the constituency as a result of violence.
“I was escorted here by policemen and soldiers. The level of violence in the area was very high,” he told reporters.
Apart from the constituency, the PDP is also leading in the senatorial district.
The party swept all four of the eight local government areas that make up Rivers East, as of 2:55am when this report was filed.
In Ogu/Bolo, PDP polled 4,578 votes to defeat APC with 3,052 votes. In Omuma, PDP secured 5,606 votes ahead of APC with APC 3,052 votes.
In Omuma PDP had 28,305 votes, while APC secured only 9,618 votes. PDP had 457 in Okrika, while APC got 212 votes.
