THE Chief of Army staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Burutail, has promised that the Nigeria Military would continue to patronize made in Aba products, including uniforms and boots and other military kits. General Buratai made the promise when he led a delegation of high ranking military officers on a courtesy visit to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State at the Government House, Umuahia.
According to Burutai, the military has mandated their suppliers to emphasize on made in Nigeria products, saying that the patronage was motivated by the Governor Ikpeazu’s to him months ago.
We have long keyed in to this. The army has been partnering and we’ve been directing our suppliers to contact the producers to ensure that they get made-in Nigeria-products. This will continue. “We are looking more inwards rather than going out, trying to conserve scarce foreign currency and do more things.
We are channeling them home so that our local industries can thrive and serve us better”, Burutai said. The COAS commended the Governor for the good relationship existing between the Army and the people of Abia State.
Burutai explained that he was in Abia State to assess the progress of the “operation python dance” which the Military launched last week to mark her end of the year training activities. According to him, “Operation Python Dance” is a peaceful engagement that builds synergy between the army and other security agencies, insisting that the army was not out to intimidate or harass anybody.
