Dutse—NO fewer than 79 persons died in 149 road accidents in Jigawa State since January.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Jigawa State Command, Mr. Angus Ibeizim, stated this while flagging off the 2016 ember months campaign in Dutse, yesterday.
According to him, road accidents can be minimised, if traffic rules are adhered to by motorists.
Ibeizim revealed that over 5,000 people died in over 9,000 cases of road traffic crashes in the country, while over 900 people died in Zone 1, comprising Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
The Commander, who was represented by the Deputy Corps Marshal, in charge of operations, Mr. Cyril Mathew, noted that with good roads within and around the state, road users could minimise accident by being disciplined and putting their vehicles in order.
He said: “The ember months, especially December, is characterised by high vehicular movement, which leads to increase accidents.”
