Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai says members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi’ites pose a threat to the sovereignty of Nigeria if they are allowed to continue to practice their form of religion. El-Rufai who in October banned the group from holding meetings in the state, said this when he spoke with newsmen in Kaduna yesterday November 27th.
He accused the group and its leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, of attempting to run a parallel government in the state. He said for many years, Shi’ite members have repeatedly harassed residents of the state who refuse to follow their religion. He accused the group of having an agenda to cause a religious conflict in Nigeria.
