PRESIDENT BUHARI’S WIFE AND AIDE (GARBA SHEHU) IN ILLEGAL FOREX DEALS – PDP
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that the presidential media aide Garba Shehu made Forex purchase of $800,000 from CBN. In a series of tweets PDP also accused Muhammadu Buhari’s wife Aisha of getting $22m forex from CBN. Garba Shehu denied the claims saying that it’s a lie by the PDP. His words: “It is a lie by PDP to say I bought USD 800,000 from the CBN.
I had only two FOREX purchases since coming into government: Eight thousand Dollars (USD 8,000) sent to my daughter and nephews through UBA. This is verifiable. “I’m not a FOREX trader. The day I choose to start trading in FOREX I will resign as Presidential spokesman. “If I know the coward and psychopath behind the official PDP handle, I will launch a defamation suit against him/her. And I will claim money in millions as damages!” Buhari’s reputation and record as an incorruptible politician, principally while serving as Nigeria’s military ruler from 1983 to 1985, lend credibility to his promises to tackle corruption.
He was elected a year ago on a promise to root out endemic corruption that has held most of Nigerians in poverty despite the country’s enormous oil wealth. The incumbent president has fired or probed dozens of officials serving under his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, and ordered an audit of key government bodies such as state oil firm NNPC.
