INEC seeks stay of judgment ordering ADC deregistration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked the Court of Appeal in Abuja to halt the execution of a judgment ordering the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress and four other political parties.

INEC made the request this Tuesday while challenging the Federal High Court ruling that directed the commission to deregister the affected parties.

The electoral commission argued that the judgment should not be enforced pending the determination of its appeal against the ruling.

The case follows a recent court decision which held that the affected political parties failed to meet constitutional requirements for continued registration.
