While reflecting on the intensity of yesterday’s meetings, a colleague and I found ourselves discussing a leadership trait associated with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru – one that Ebonyians witnessed in full display.
We recalled his time as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, where he saw himself as first among equals, recognizing that any member was qualified to lead. This mindset shaped his inclusive approach and contributed to his emergence as the first two-time Speaker in the Assembly’s history.

That same disposition was evident during the expanded APC stakeholders’ meetings across the North, South, and Central zones yesterday. He approached the process as a servant-leader – transparent, engaging, and attentive to diverse interests, while demonstrating a firm grasp of the state’s political landscape.
The task was mentally demanding, but his delivery reflected preparation and intent. His emphasis on inclusiveness reinforces why his manifesto prominently centers on “the people” – not as a slogan, but as a guiding principle.
Ebonyi people are indeed blessed to have him – a leader who sees himself as one of their own, not above them. The outcomes of yesterday’s engagements are poised to go a long way in strengthening the peace and unity he has continued to foster across the state, reinforcing a shared sense of purpose among the people.
