At the maiden matriculation ceremony of the University of ICT, Offerekpe Agbaja, in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on March 14, 2026, the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Ernest I. Egba, delivered more than just a ceremonial address, he showcased the early fruits of a bold educational vision.
During his presentation, Prof. Egba invited students to present some of the innovative products they had already developed, despite the university commencing academic activities only in August 2025. One notable project was a sanitary pad incinerator, jointly designed and built by students from the Faculties of Computing and Engineering and Technology. The demonstration drew admiration from the audience and served as a clear indication that the institution is not merely imparting theoretical knowledge but actively nurturing practical innovation.

Buoyed by these early successes, the Vice Chancellor made a passionate appeal to the Governor, seeking approval for a special exhibition where students would present between 20 and 25 different inventions and products developed within the university. According to him, the proposed exhibition would serve as tangible proof that the institution is already advancing the Governor’s vision for a new model of higher education.
That vision, as articulated by the state government in the People’s Charter of Needs, is to build a university that produces skilled professionals, innovators, and solution-driven thinkers – young Nigerians equipped to shape the future of the country’s digital economy.
Although still in its infancy, the University of ICT is steadily gaining momentum. With a rich blend of programmes tailored to meet the demands of the modern technological landscape, the institution is positioning itself as a hub for creativity, research, and practical problem-solving.
If the early signs are anything to go by, the future looks promising. In the years ahead, graduates of the university are expected not only to seek employment but to create it, transforming ideas into products, driving local industries, putting food on the tables of their families, and providing solutions to real societal challenges.
It is a journey powered by the grit, vision, and forward-looking leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and already, the seeds planted less than a year ago are beginning to bear remarkable fruit.
At UICTO, it is from classroom to creation.
