The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerians to actively engage their elected representatives and demand greater accountability.
Akpabio made the call during his address as the Senate resumed plenary after a brief adjournment that allowed committees to carry out legislative assignments.

He described the Senate as a “workshop of solutions” rather than merely a platform for political debates, stressing that democracy can only thrive when citizens participate meaningfully in the legislative process.
The Senate President urged Nigerians to channel their concerns through democratic institutions by engaging lawmakers directly on issues affecting their communities.
While acknowledging the growing influence of social media in shaping public discourse, Akpabio noted that formal legislative procedures remain essential for translating public opinion into enforceable laws and policies.
He also urged lawmakers to maintain unity and focus on national interest despite political differences as legislative activities resume.
