Umuahia – The Abia Patriots has called on Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, to respond to allegations of misdemeanor and clarify issues surrounding his academic records and NYSC participation.
In a press statement, the group expressed concern over a petition filed by Mr. John Aikpokpo Martins with the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), alleging that Kalu combined his NYSC service with Law School attendance, violating the NYSC Act and the Legal Practitioners Act.

“The petition raises serious concerns about Kalu’s integrity and fitness to hold public office,” said Mazi Adindu Madumere, Secretary General of The Abia Patriots. “As the first Abia State indigene to occupy the exalted position of Deputy Speaker of NASS, posterity will hold him responsible for ascending to this position with allegedly fraudulent papers.”
The group demands that Kalu provides clarity on the alleged NYSC-Law School overlap, his academic records, and demonstrate his fitness to practice law and hold public office.
“Kalu’s situation highlights the need for transparency and accountability in public office,” Madumere said. “The Abia Patriots will not tolerate any compromise on integrity and transparency in public office.”
The statement cited past cases where academic records and personal credentials have been contested, emphasizing that public officers in sensitive positions must be role models with impeccable character profiles.
Kalu has yet to respond to the allegations. The Abia Patriots urges him to respond promptly and uphold the highest standards of integrity.
The development has sparked intense debate, with many calling for Kalu’s resignation if the allegations are proven true.
