Tension has reportedly gripped Bende Town in Bende Local Government Area following allegations that a young man, Okorie Akobundu Wisdom from Ozuitem but resident in Bende was allegedly brutalized and beaten to death by police officers attached to the Bende Division.
According to local sources, the deceased was invited by the police for questioning, but tragically died while in custody.
According to Promise Uzoma Okoro, in response to the growing unrest, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, has visited the area to appeal for calm amid reports of plans by angry youths to set the police station ablaze, he assured that proper investigation will be carried including an autopsy to ascertain the cause of his death .
