PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA – In a landmark medical achievement, a team of doctors at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has successfully performed a rare and sensitive surgery on a young orphan, a girl living with two reproductive organs.
The successful operation, which took place on September 29, 2025, has been hailed as a testament to the advanced surgical capabilities within Nigeria’s healthcare system. The procedure involved the removal of the male reproductive organ, leaving the female organ intact.
The patient, a young girl named Angel, is a pupil of one of the 38 free schools run by the Omega Power Ministries (OPM) for orphans and less privileged children. HRM King Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, the General Overseer of OPM, provided a detailed account of the case, stating that Angel had been suffering from severe pain whenever she used the restroom.
Angel’s background is one of profound hardship. She is the first of three children who were orphaned after their father passed away and their mother subsequently died from convulsions. Following their parents’ deaths, Angel was taken in by her father’s sister, who enrolled her in the OPM free school system.
HRM King Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere recounted that after being informed of Angel’s condition, he personally interviewed her and then directed her to the OPM free hospital. From there, she was transferred to UPTH for specialized care.
“The operation was successfully done… and she is completely okay by the grace of God,” the General Overseer stated, praising the “wonderful doctors” involved. The entire cost of the surgery and medical care was covered by tithes, donations, and offerings from the OPM congregation.
The General Overseer also confirmed that steps are being taken to bring Angel’s two siblings, who are currently farming in the village, into the church’s care program.
This case has sparked celebrations within the medical and faith communities, highlighting how collaborative efforts can lead to life-changing interventions for the most vulnerable. The successful surgery at UPTH stands as a significant milestone, demonstrating that complex medical procedures can be effectively carried out within Nigeria.
