Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested two men impersonating police officers at Takum junction, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to reports, the operation was conducted following credible intelligence and in collaboration with operatives of the National Dr¥g Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The suspects, who were dressed in mobile police uniforms, were intercepted with two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with substances suspected to be cann+bis sativa.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, confirmed the incident, stating that “preliminary investigation revealed that none of the occupants are serving policemen.”
Further checks revealed that the cann+bis-laden vehicles were loaded in Akure, Ondo State, and were en route to Adamawa State before being intercepted. One of the arrested suspects has been identified as 71-year-old Monday George, a dismissed Police Assistant Superintendent (ASP), while the other is 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche.
The Army disclosed that the occupants of the second Hilux abandoned the vehicle and fled on sighting the troops. In total, 1,134 blocks of cann+bis were recovered. The suspects and exhibits have since been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.
This operation forms part of the ongoing exercise across Taraba State under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, aimed at eliminating b@ndits and cr+minal elements.
Commending the security forces, the Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised the “synergy and resilience” of the troops and NDLEA operatives. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment, saying it would continue to ensure that Taraba State remains unsafe for cr+minals and dr¥g traffickers.
He further appealed to residents: “Members of the public should continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations across the state.”
