Born on April 21, 1960, in the quiet town of Igbere, Abia State, Kalu’s entrepreneurial instincts emerged early. As a university student, he took a bold step that would change his life forever—borrowing ₦5,000 from his mother to start trading palm oil. This modest venture became the seed of a vast business empire.
Kalu’s business interests soon diversified. From palm oil, he moved into furniture trading, and before long, he was laying the foundation for what would become SLOK Holdings—a conglomerate with tentacles in banking, publishing, manufacturing, oil and gas, and telecommunications.
By his mid-30s, Kalu had already become a household name in Nigerian business circles. At just 26, he was honored with the National Merit Award, a rare recognition for someone so young—a testament to his audacious entrepreneurial spirit.
In 1999, Kalu took his influence into the political arena, becoming Governor of Abia State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He served two terms until 2007, focusing heavily on infrastructure development, particularly roads.

Support for widows, orphans, and small-scale traders, providing micro-loans and livelihood support. The annual Christmas outreach in Igbere, where food and gifts are distributed generously to community members.
