Marafa Loses Zamfara Base As 14 LGA Chairmen, Supporters Dump His Movement

Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has lost the support of his political base in Zamfara State as thousands of his followers from all 14 local government areas announced they were abandoning his structures and pledging loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decision was made public during a meeting in Gusau, where the 14 chairmen of Marafa’s political structures jointly declared their defection.

Speaking on their behalf, Marafa’s close ally, Abubakar Saddiq, said supporters from the 147 wards across the state had decided to leave because the movement was no longer serving their political or developmental interests.

We can’t keep engaging in politics without gains. We take part in building a democratic government to benefit from democracy and promote development in our society.”

He accused Marafa of creating internal conflicts in the APC that weakened the party and contributed to its defeats in the 2019 and 2023 elections in Zamfara.

Senator Marafa has been at the center of internal crises that caused the APC to fail twice in this state,” Saddiq added.

According to him, they have decided to return to the APC to work alongside other party members for the development of Zamfara.

He stressed that progress is impossible without peace and unity, and made it clear that Senator Marafa now stands alone.

Recall that Marafa had announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in August.
