The Special Assistant On New Media to the governor of Ebonyi state, Francis Nwifuru, Mr Leo Ekene Oketa has commended the Trek-a-thon journey by Mr. Jeremiah Obaji Nworu.
Describing the move as a walk of courage and conviction, Oketa said he could no longer feign ignorance regarding ‘the plethora of updates’ about the journey.
Recall that mr. Nworu had started his adventure of trekking from Lagos state where he based to Ebonyi state, his home town to show appreciation to the state governor. He highlighted the good deeds of the governor since he resumed office citing the restoration of peace in Effium where he(Nworu) is an indigene.
According to him; “I want to thank the Governor for the gigantic projects he’s executing in the state.”
Reacting to the development, Oketa in a statement on Monday said the adventure is one of courage and conviction.
He said; “Jerry has continued to report that he is embarking on a pedestrian journey from Lagos to Abakaliki, in appreciation for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s decisive steps in restoring peace to the longstanding conflict in Effium and Alioma (formerly Ezza Effium) communities.
“While numerous opinions abound, mine is to commend Jerry for a journey that symbolizes unity, healing, and strength of a community that has endured and overcome.
“In truth, Jerry was one of those who vehemently stood in the media gap, pushing against the course of the present Governor emerging as one. However, his antecedents, in my personal opinion, are not weighty enough to fault his purpose. For a fact, his journey offers better meaning – just as the biblical conversion of Saul to St. Paul.”
The S.A further stated that the journey is clear indicator that the people can go any length when leadership meets their will.
“The Governor’s efforts in restoring peace deserve recognition, and Jerry’s bold decision, to personally express appreciation speaks volumes about his courage and conviction. His huge steps in the journey stand as a living testimony to what can happen when leadership meets the will of the people,” he added.
He encouraged Nworu on the journey stating that he not only carries his footsteps but also the hope, gratitude and voice of the people.
“And so, my dear brother Jerry, as you continue on this long and meaningful journey, know that you carry more than just your footsteps, you carry the hope, gratitude, and voice of a people who have longed for peace. Be encouraged that every step you take represents an ounce of appreciation in honour of a peace which is unquantifiable.
“Travel safely, rest as much as your body demands, walk with purpose, and know that many are with you in spirit,” he concluded.
