APGA National Youth Leader, Comr Onyebuchi Chukwu Writes Open Letter To Gov. Nwifuru Over Suspension Of General Manager Of A Radio Station

The National Youth Leader of All Progressives Grand Alliance, Comrade Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu has reminded the governor of Ebonyi state, Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, Blder of the impending negative impact the suspension of the Ebonyi private radio Manager would have on his (Governor’s) image.

Mr. Chikwere was suspended by the management of Legacy FM; a private radio station in Ebonyi state after he made a comment about the state government.

The management of the radio station had described the comment by the acting manager as “a step out of bounds”and suspended him from his position.

In reaction, Comr Chukwu addressed a personally signed public letter to the governor wherein he warned that the suspension as much as it may affect the suspended in a way, would more greatly affect the image of the entire state.

“It will send a bad signal,” he warned.

He wrote; “Your Excellency, with utmost respect, I must state that this suspension if it stands, will hurts your image and your administration far more than it does Mr. Chikwere himself.

“It will send a bad signal, not only within Ebonyi State but to the entire nation and beyond, that your government is intolerant to opposition, dissent, and constructive criticism.

“Democracy thrives when leaders are open to scrutiny and alternative opinions, even when such opinions are uncomfortable. The world is watching, and it is in moments like this that history records whether a government is remembered as a tolerant, listening one, or as one that autocratic and silenced dissent.”

He recalled to the governor how his predecessors harassed Ebonyians and he (Nwifuru) was commended for restoring peace upon assuming office.

He therefore, urged Nwifuru to influence the recalling of Mr. Chikwere to his position at Legacy FM.

He added; “Dear Governor, don’t forget where we are coming from. We were harassed by your predecessor and you have been highly commended for restoring peace and freedom of expression and association in Ebonyi State.

“Sir, I humbly advise that you use your good office to oblige the management of Legacy FM to recall Mr. Chikwere to his position. If for any other reason the station deems it necessary to relieve him of his duties, let such an action be grounded in professional performance or conduct unrelated to the exercise of his constitutional right to free expression. Let it not be said that he was sacked because he criticised you.

“By taking this approach, you will send a strong message to Ebonyians and the wider public that your administration is committed to democratic values, freedom of speech, and constructive engagement not intimidation or suppression.”

The national youth leader expressed trust in the wisdom of the governor and optimism that he would oblige to his plea.

He concluded; “I trust in your wisdom, leadership, and deep understanding of the political, moral, and democratic implications of this matter.”
