The Nigeria Police Force expresses concern over the growing trend of lobbying and unofficial pressure on the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission by officers seeking special promotions.
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, explains that this development follows recent approvals of accelerated promotions for a select group of officers, which are based strictly on merit. The NPF attributes the current wave of lobbying to misinformation being circulated by certain media outlets.
In a firm response, the Force clarifies that the accelerated promotions are not arbitrary but form part of a structured reward system designed to recognize officers who demonstrate outstanding performance, bravery, and professional excellence. It emphasizes that the process adheres to strict guidelines and should not be misconstrued as a blanket or indiscriminate promotion exercise.
The Nigeria Police Force, therefore, cautions both officers and the public to disregard misleading reports, particularly from a specific online platform suggesting that promotions are being awarded unfairly. The force reiterates its commitment to a transparent, merit-based promotion system and warns that any attempt to influence the process through lobbying or unethical means will attract disciplinary action in line with established regulations.
