Why Peter Obi Got More Votes Than Peter Obi - Sheriff

Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has explained why the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, was able to win Lagos State, saying there are more Igbo people in Lagos than any other tribe.

He made this statement on Monday while responding to questions on Politics Today, a Channels TV programme.

Responding question on how Obi, despite running on platform of Labour Party that controlled no state, was able to gathered over six million, Sheriff said, “The problem of Peter Obi is that he ran under a platform of a party, but his tribe, the Igbos, voted for him, and they would always do that.”

When the interviewee pointed out that “Lagos voted for him,” Sheriff argued that Obi’s win was mainly due to the large number of Igbo residents in Lagos. He said,

“There are more Igbo people in Lagos than other tribes. I have lived in Lagos for more than all parts of my life since I left England in 1980. I live in Lagos. Lagos is occupied by the Igbos
