The political atmosphere in Abia State is beginning to heat up ahead of the 2027 general elections, as former governorship aspirant and media entrepreneur, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, hosted the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji, at his residence in Abuja.
Engr. Orji, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met with Don Lulu during a private breakfast meeting, sparking renewed speculation about Don Lulu’s possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he contested the 2023 governorship primary and came second.
The meeting comes barely days after the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, and the party’s Southeast Vice Chairman, Chief Ceekee Igara, also met with Don Lulu in Abuja, a development that has further intensified political speculations around the media mogul’s next move.
Despite the growing interest and speculations, Don Lulu has yet to make a formal declaration regarding a change in party affiliation. When contacted by ABN TV on Sunday, he simply stated, “I’m still in PDP.”
However, political watchers believe that the series of high-level engagements with influential figures across party lines suggest strategic consultations are ongoing ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Abia State.
With key political players making moves and alliances taking shape, all eyes are now on Don Lulu as the question lingers — who knows what’s next?
