Alhaji Mamman Daura, a close relative of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has shared details of the late leader’s final moments in London.
Speaking with THISDAY, Daura said he visited Buhari at the London Clinic on Saturday evening and found him in good spirits.
“He was cheerful, we spoke at length and laughed together. He was making plans to return to Nigeria and had even arranged for the hotel bills of those who travelled to support him,” Daura said.
He explained that Buhari was looking forward to a routine check by his doctor on Sunday morning. But by midday, his condition suddenly worsened, and he began struggling to breathe.
Doctors tried to intervene, but Buhari passed away around 4:30pm.
Daura, a respected journalist and elder statesman, described the death as a painful loss, saying Buhari had been hopeful and looking forward to returning home.
