Ikpeazu Lists His Achievements As Abia State Governor

Former governor of Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu has said that he never promised to fix all of the state’s problems during his tenure.

Ikpeazu was governor of Abia from 2015 to 2023.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the politician said his manifesto was modest and focused on realistic goals.

“I don’t regret anything because I was very humble and modest in my manifesto and in my social contract with the people of Abia,” he said.

“I never promised that I would be able to do everything. The summary of my promise was that I was going to move Abia where it was at that time to a better place.”

He said his administration should be judged on the parameters he set while in office.

“One of them is life expectancy — it was better in that time. Poverty index — it was better in my time,” he said.

The ex-governor also said his administration scored highly in job creation, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.

“I built two industries. I created employment for over 5,000 people,” he said.

“I built over 220 roads. I built 650 classroom blocks. I offered over 50 overseas scholarships to Abia youths. I trained 30 shoemakers in China. I can go on and on.”

On May 19, Ikpeazu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the party remains stronger than most political parties.

He was reacting to the gale of defections from the party as the PDP grapples with internal crisis.

“Even in what some may call its weakest moment, the ghost of the PDP is stronger than most political parties in this country,” Ikpeazu said.
