Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has opened up on Victor Osimhen’s move to rivals Galatasaray, calling them lucky for signing the Super Eagles man.
Ali Koc has declared that Nigerian goal machine Victor Osimhen is too talented for the Turkish Super Lig.
The 26-year-old striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray, Fenerbahce’s fierce Istanbul rivals, has been in scintillating form, scoring 33 goals across all competitions for the Yellow and Reds.
Galatasaray are keen to secure a permanent deal for Osimhen this summer, but Koc insists the Nigerian star belongs in a more competitive league.
“Osimhen is a special player and a player above Turkey,” Koc told TRT Spor.
“He is in a different category. He also comes once in 40 years.
“There is talk about whether he will stay or not. Accounts, books, taxes, agreements… If it is done according to the rules, there will be no room for a spending limit!”
Fenerbahce fans have slammed Koc for failing to sign the dynamic forward. Koc clarified that Osimhen was never offered to Fenerbahce, and unique circumstances paved the way for Galatasaray’s coup.
“For those who don’t know about Osimhen’s transfer, let me tell you; luck was on Galatasaray’s side,” he said.
“It was very good for them because Mauro Icardi was injured. It was a windfall. If it had been both, it could have been a problem.”
Osimhen is unlikely to remain in Turkey beyond the end of the season as Manchester United, Chelsea, and Saudi Arabian teams reportedly vying for the 26-year-old’s signature.
