Nnamdi Kanu’s Family Demands Livestreaming Of Trial To Ensure Transparency

The family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has called for the live streaming of his ongoing trial before Justice James Omotosho, citing the need for transparency and accurate public access to court proceedings.

In a statement issued by Emmanuel Kanu, the family’s spokesperson, the Kanus expressed concern over what they described as “deliberate misinformation” surrounding the trial, particularly media reports alleging that Kanu admitted to inciting violence and calling for the killing of police officers.

Emmanuel Kanu dismissed the reports as false, accusing sections of the media of complicity in spreading propaganda allegedly driven by government influence.

“The media’s complicity in spreading lies, such as the baseless claim that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu admitted to inciting violence, is not a true reflection of what actually happened in court,” he stated.

He argued that the trial, which he said is of global interest, deserves real-time access for the public in order to counter what he described as a coordinated attempt to manipulate public perception.

“This case demands real-time access to counter the propaganda and falsehoods peddled by government-controlled media,” he said.

While acknowledging Justice Omotosho’s impartiality in handling the proceedings, the family expressed worry over what it described as the prosecution’s alleged attempts to distort facts.

Emmanuel Kanu also criticized restrictions placed on Kanu’s family members and legal representatives from speaking to the press after court sessions, saying such measures undermine the fairness of the trial.

He appealed to the court to allow the proceedings to be broadcast live, stressing that such transparency would protect the integrity of the judicial process and prevent further distortions.
