There was tension in Port Harcourt on Monday as a group of Rivers women staged a dramatic walkout on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during a women empowerment programme at the EUI Centre.
The event, which was billed to feature the presentation of empowerment items to 500 women in the state, turned chaotic when the wife of the Sole Administrator, Mrs. Theresa Ibas, was invited to speak on behalf of the First Lady.
According to an eyewitness, the moment her name was announced, the atmosphere shifted.
The incident created a scene at the venue, drawing attention from security personnel and officials present.
The action is believed to be connected to the ongoing political tension in the state.
The women, many dressed in uniform attire, marched out of the hall, continuing their chants in defiance.
