The commission’s executive vice chairman, Aminu Maida while speaking at the high-level virtual stakeholders’ engagement forum in Abuja said the directive is aimed at protecting consumers’ rights in the telecommunications industry.
Represented by NCC’s Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Rimini Makama, the commission said the directive would also address the issue of unused prepaid credit on inactive lines.
Noting that this affects millions of customers in the industry, Makama said, “With the rapid growth of mobile subscriptions and the dominance of prepaid plans, it has become critical to ensure that consumer interests are not eroded through forfeiture of unused credit.”
He also stated that the proposed guidance reaffirms the right of customer to reclaim their unused credit within 12 months, provided they can verify ownership of the said lines.
