Presidency Reacts To Prison Break In Kogi State

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reacted to the report of a jail break at the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior in a statement issued on Monday, March 24, ordered an immediate probe into circumstances that led to the incident.

The statement signed by the minister’s special adviser on media, Babatunde Alao, said Tunji-Ojo described the incident as ‘unfortunate’.

Alao said that the minister has also assured that all inmates who escaped from the prison would be recaptured using the biometric database and advanced surveillance technology adopted by the Nigerian Correctional Service.

He added that the minister has directed Sylvester Ndidi, the Acting Controller General of the service to visit the facility and conduct a thorough audit to determine the cause of the escape.

“We are on top of the situation. Our men are on the ground in Kogi, and I have ordered a comprehensive audit,” Tunji-Ojo said.

Recall that Politics Nigeria had earlier reported that at least 12 inmates had escaped from the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State on Monday, March 24.Political satire merchandise
