BREAKING!!! INEC Receives Petition To Recall Natasha From Senate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received a petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Senate.

The petition was reportedly submitted with over 250,000 signatures from constituents, out of about 480,000 registered voters in her district.

According to the Nigerian electoral laws, a recall process requires the support of at least 50% plus one of the total registered voters.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central under the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was suspended from the Senate for six months after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of harassment—an allegation Akpabio has denied.

Her suspension, handed down on March 6 by the Senate Committee on Ethics, was based on what the committee described as “unruly and disruptive” behaviour during a Senate debate. As a result, her security details and salary were also withdrawn.

The senator’s conflict with Akpabio began after a disagreement over the rearrangement of Senate seating positions. She later alleged that the harassment had started in 2023 when she and her husband visited Akpabio’s country home.
