According to Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT police command, a vehicle belonging to the Dangote Cement trailer lost control while approaching the Nyanya Bridge from AYA.
Adeh said the trailer, heavy laden with cement rammed into vehicles trapped in traffic, leading to a fire outbreak.
Noting that the victims of the crash have been deposited at the mortuary in Karu General Hospital, Adeh said the incident occurred at about 6.58 pm on Wednesday.
She said, “A distress call was received by Karu Division reporting a horrifying scene—a Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement and approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA, had lost control and crashed into stationary vehicles trapped in traffic.
“The impact engulfed fourteen vehicles in a raging inferno. Panic and chaos followed as bystanders and motorists scrambled for safety. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, battling thick smoke and intense heat to rescue those trapped,” she said.
She also noted that the Nigeria police worked with relevant agencies to contain the situation and ensure traffic flow in the affected location.
She extended condolences to the families of the victims affected and urged road users to exercise caution and adhere to the speed limits.
