Popular Nigerian comedian, Obinna Simon aka Mc Tagwaye has announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mc Tagwaye in a statement released on Friday, March 14, 2025, said he decided the resign from the party after months of intense consultation and introspection.
In the statement titled, ‘Out With Old, In With The New’, Mc Tagwaye said he has now joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He added that his decision to leave the APC for SDP stems from a deep-seated conviction that his former party has deviated from its original ideals and is no longer committed to the welfare and progress of the Nigerian people.
He also said that the APC’s glaring lack of reward system for loyal members, its gerontocratic leadership structure, and its policies that perpetuate hardship on low-income earners have collectively sounded the death knell on his membership.
The comedian known for his ability to imitate former president Muhammadu Buhari noted that the internal democracy of the APC has been deeply compromised with a few brokers focused on dictating the party’s direction and disregarding the voices and aspirations of the majority.
“In stark contrast, the SDP has emerged as a beacon of hope, with its unwavering commitment to the youth, internal democracy, transparency, and accountability.
“The party’s vision for a new Nigeria, where the welfare and progress of all citizens are paramount, resonates deeply with me. I have formally submitted my resignation to my ward chairman of the APC, marking the end of my association with the party.
“I am excited to join the SDP and contribute to the party’s mission to build a better Nigeria for all. I urge all Nigerians who share my vision to join me on this journey. Together, we can create a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our great nation. Thank you and God bless,” Mc Tagwaye.
His a social media post commending the action of the popular comedian, a former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who also dumped the APC welcomed Mc Tagwaye to SDP.
El-Rufai wrote, “NIGERIA UPDATE: MC Tagwaye resigns from APC, and declares for the SDP. Welcome. Alhamdulillah.”
