The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a new turn as the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to sack all commissioners serving in his administration.
The lawmakers, who are allies of former Governor Nyesom Wike, also demanded the removal of all other appointees who were not screened and confirmed by the Assembly.
In addition, the Assembly directed Governor Fubara to submit a fresh list of nominees for appointment as commissioners within the same 48-hour period.
The latest development comes amid the ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The political tension in the state has been escalating, with both factions battling for control over the government’s structure.
It remains to be seen how Governor Fubara will respond to the ultimatum, as the crisis continues to shake the political landscape of Rivers State.
