Peter Obi Finally Speaks Over IBB's Book Launch

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has reacted to former Head of State General Ibrahim Babangidaโ€™s (retired) admission of the incidents surrounding the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election.

Obi, who attended the autobiography presentation and launch of IBBโ€™s presidential library, described Babangidaโ€™s confessions as a step towards national healing, unity, and progress.

Babangida at the event on Thursday, February 20, admitted that the late Moshood Abiola won the 1993 presidential election.

He also said that while he takes responsibility for the annulment of the election, that particular election was Nigeriaโ€™s most credible and fair poll at the time.

However, in his reaction, Obi in a post made on X, said he hopes that other key players in the election would find the courage to do the same.

The former governor said, โ€œLastly of the most profound moments of the event was IBBโ€™s admission that Chief MKO Abiola won the June 12 election. This acknowledgement is a step toward national healing, unity and progress of our nation.

โ€œI hope that one day, other key players in Nigeriaโ€™s democracy will find the courage to recognize the true winners of past elections, allowing our nation to tell its story with honesty and reflection,โ€ Obi stated.
