JUST IN!!! Cheating Is An Offence, Punishable Under The Law – Police Warn Nigerians

Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, has reiterated that cheating is a criminal offence under Nigerian law and is punishable accordingly.

Quoting Section 421 of the Criminal Code Act, the PRO of the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja on Sunday posted on his X emphasized that any person who, by means of any fraudulent trick or device, obtains from another person anything capable of being stolen or induces another to deliver money or goods under false pretenses, is guilty of a misdemeanor and liable to imprisonment for two years.

He further noted that the police do not always require a warrant for arrests in such cases. β€œTake note that the police do not require warrants to arrest in all cases. This is an example where no warrants are required before arrest, and we still have more instances,” Adejobi stated.

According to the Criminal Code Act, a person found committing the offence of cheating may be arrested without a warrant.
