Nasarawa: Police deny allegation of releasing murder suspect after taking bribe

Nasarawa State Police Command has denied reports circulating online, accusing its personnel of releasing a murder suspect in exchange for a bribe.

Reports by some online news outlets allegef that Joshua Moses, a young labourer, was killed at a construction site in the Gidan Rago area of Aso B, a community under Karu Local Government Area.

According to eyewitness accounts, Moses was fatally stabbed by a gang member during a dispute over an alleged “development levy” imposed on workers at the site.

“Joshua went to work as a labourer when some men arrived, demanding a fee before construction could continue.

“They claimed to be in charge of the area and insisted that anyone building there must pay them,” a source stated.

The dispute escalated into a violent confrontation, during which one of the gang members reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Moses. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Police officers from Aso A Police Station arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. However, family members allege that the suspect was later released after a gang leader, known as ‘Mai Angwa,’ paid off the police
