IPOB Heads To Supreme Court Over Court Judgment Affirming Its Designation As Terrorist Group

The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has headed to the Supreme Court to challenge the descion of the Appeal Court affirming its designation as a terrorist organisation.

A five-ground notice of appeal filed by its counsel, Aloy Ejimakor.

The pro-Biafra group said its proscription violates the constitutional provisions of allowing it the right of fair hearing.

In the appeal marker SC/CA/A/214/2018 and filed on February 7, the group said the Appeal Court misinterpreted the Nigerian Constitution by prioritising national security concerns over its right to a fair hearing.

It also said that the court proceedings proscribing it failed to meet the standard proof required in a criminal matter among many others.
