Tanker explosion: Niger Govt provides medical relief to victims

The Niger State Government has responded to the devastating tanker explosion at Dikko Junction by deploying an 18-man multi-disciplinary medical team to provide urgent medical relief to the victims.

The move follows Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s directive to offer free medical services and deploy sufficient health workers to facilities treating the patients.

The medical team, led by Commissioner of Secondary and Tertiary Healthcare, Dr. Tukur Bello, includes Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Shehu Ahmed, and Special Adviser on Special Duties, Dr. Murtala Bagana.

The Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, in a post on his X handle, stated that the medical team assessed the patients’ conditions and directed those requiring intensive care to be referred to tertiary healthcare facilities in Abuja.

He disclosed, “As of the latest report, 43 male patients were admitted to the Suleja General Hospital, with seven fatalities, three discharged. Ten referred to Abuja for specialist care, and 23 receiving treatment for various degrees of burns.

“At the General Hospital, Sabon-Wuse, 23 patients were initially admitted, 3 died within the first 6 -8 hours of admission, 19 patients relatives signed a consent form to be discharged against medical advice while one patient in critical state to be referred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja.”
