Edo guber tribunal: Be neutral, impartial – Group tasks Chief Judge

A socio-political group, the Ijaw Youth Brigade, has tasked the Chief Judge of Edo State to be neutral and impartial in handling the election tribunal proceedings which is set to commence today, Monday.

This is coming following heightened tensions surrounding the outcome of the September 21 election, with various stakeholders looking up to the judiciary to remain impartial.

In a statement, the leader of the group, Mr Bimode Borowari, urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the National Judicial Council, NJC, to pay special attention to the tribunal proceedings in Edo State to ensure the integrity of the process.

While acknowledging the critical role of the judiciary in upholding democratic principles, especially in election-related cases, the group said the public’s confidence in the electoral system hinges on a transparent and unbiased tribunal process.

According to him, the need for a neutral stance is essential to preserving the integrity of judicial decisions that could have far-reaching implications for the political landscape of the state
