Rivers: There May Be A Chance Of Fubara's Impeachment - Cole

Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political obstacles have drawn the attention of Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State in 2023.

Speaking on Thursday, Cole forewarned that the growing political turmoil may put Fubara in danger of being impeached.

Cole’s caution comes in response to a recent decision by the Court of Appeal to uphold a Federal High Court ruling that voids the presentation and approval of Rivers State’s 2024 budget.

He claimed that this decision severely affects state government and places Fubara in a “dangerous political situation.”

The former APC candidate for governor stated that he thought the circumstances might have a negative political impact on Fubara’s government.

“The governor finds himself in a very precarious political situation,” the speaker declared. Naturally, this means that the assembly, led by Amaewhule, is acknowledged as the legitimate assembly since they are returning the budget to them.

“Once that happens, he has to now navigate a possible impeachment issue.

We have a state where the APC controls the house of assembly and the PDP controls the governor; additionally, the APP controls the local government system. Thus, the state is being governed by three distinct parties.

Cole added that the south-south state’s growth is at a standstill and that the residents of Rivers are the losers in this political dispute.

“Rivers’ residents are irrelevant in the current equation being played out,” he continued.

We wouldn’t even be where we are now if the interests of the Rivers people were taken into consideration. There is a very narrow political family at the center of this whole political struggle.

“As of right now, nothing has changed. The street impoverished man is being impacted by the political struggle.
