Kidnapping ranks as Nigeria’s most-reported crime case under Tinubu

Kidnapping for ransom has ranked as Nigeria’s most-reported crime case under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

StatiSense, quoting 2023 data from Nigeria’s Ministry of Police Affairs, disclosed this on Thursday through its X account.

According to the data, kidnapping cases have outperformed murder, banditry, terrorism, and armed robbery in terms of reports in Nigeria.

In a zonal analysis, kidnapping crimes are ranked as the most reported in the North Central (38.51 percent), North East (42.11 percent), North West (49.71 percent), South East (30.61 percent), and South-South (36.73 percent), except in the South West.

Meanwhile, the report indicated that murder crime cases are most prevalent in the South West (29.87 percent).

This comes as insecurity continues to thrive unfettered in Nigeria despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vow to address the issue.

IgbereTV reports that bandits stormed the Ushafa community of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), killed a man identified as Mr. Felix Chuks, and abducted his entire family.

Last week, 20 medical students were abducted in Benue State but have now been released.

Recall that 287 pupils were kidnapped from a government secondary school in Kuriga, a town in Kaduna State.
