Bauchi debunks report of non-recruitment of teachers in 5 years

The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has refuted a recent report by an online platform (IgbereTV) that the state is among the 18 states that have not recruited teachers in the past five years.

Speaking with journalists on Monday, the ministry’s Information Officer, Jalaludeen Usman, stated that the claim is inaccurate and does not reflect the current and ongoing efforts of the Bauchi State government in the area of teacher recruitment.

According to Usman, in 2022, the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Federal Teachers’ Scheme, FTTS, UNICEF, and the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, successfully integrated 310 new teachers into the education system.

He stated further that in 2024, the Bauchi State government facilitated the transfer of 84 staff with teaching qualifications from various local government areas to the Bauchi State Special Schools Management Board, BSSMB.

“These individuals are currently teaching in special schools across the 20 LGAs. Additionally, 110 administrative staff members with teaching qualifications were converted to teaching roles, further bolstering our teaching workforce,” Usman noted.

Usman also avowed: “We are actively engaged in the recruitment process for 3,000 new teachers. This includes 1,000 core subject teachers and 2,000 teachers for primary and junior secondary schools.”

He urged media houses to ensure accuracy and balance in their reports before publication, warning that “misleading information can undermine the efforts and progress being made in the education sector.”
