Opposition parties realigning to challenge APC in 2027 – Group

A group, the National Progressive Hub has said the ongoing alignment of opposition political parties and politicians in the country was an indication that they are ready to challenge the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2027.

The group also expressed concern over some members of the party who are antagonising policies and programmes of the APC-led administration.

IgbereTV reports that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, recently met with his New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso and the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The recent meetings among the trio might not be unconnected with the ongoing political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, said Bukie Okangbe, the National Coordinator of the group.

She was speaking at a press conference on Friday in Abuja where the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office was appraised

Okangbe lamented that some APC members were doing the work of opposition parties which is a sad reality due to internal party rancour.

Her words: “The game is gradually building up as many political parties and members are mending fences to challenge the All Progressive Congress hence, a signal that we have to sit up as a united family.

“The ongoing alignment of political parties and politicians in the country shows obviously that some are ready to match up with us come 2027.”

Okangbe said the group was confident that Nigerians are with APC more than they were during the last elections due to the leadership quality of President Bola Tinubu.

She added: “We believe that no amount of political alignment or strategies can vote us out in 2027 if we are united. The strength of APC lies in the faithfulness of its members and so the more we pull our leaders down in public, the more we make the opposition stronger.

“It is now getting worse that some progressive members are doing the work of opposition parties which is a sad reality. It is our hope that this press release would put a magic stop to our internal party rancour and make our party stronger and better going forward as progressives that we are
