Reps decide not to continue with proposal to stop CBN’s cybersecurity levy

The cybersecurity levy, a new policy recently announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has elicited criticism from Nigerians.

A lawmaker, Manu Soro, raised a concern during Wednesday’s session, pointing out that the proposed levy is ill-timed given the difficult circumstances many Nigerians are facing at the moment.

The lawmakers believed that the National Security Adviser, NSA, is a political role and should not be responsible for handling accumulated funds.

However, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas encouraged the lawmaker to withdraw the motion.

He said that the House leadership would first discuss the situation and find the best way to handle it.
