Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from various states in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria rose from their meeting in Calabar, resolving to join forces to ensure electoral victories for their governorship candidates in Edo and Ondo states.
Governorship elections are holding in Edo State in September 2024, while that of Ondo State comes up in November 2024.
In South-South, only Cross River State is governed by an APC governor, Bassey Otu, who is the leader of the party in the region.
He chaired the party plenary meeting in Calabar which ended yesterday night.
Addressing the APC dignitaries, Otu sent a note of caution to other parties that APC is ready to capture the zone in order to provide democratic dividends and acceptable leadership.
“We need to come together to deepen the APC in the South-South.
“Today, Cross River State is the only APC state in the South-South; we want to increase that number before we go to the next general election.
“We will not relent in our efforts as a government to offer the people confidence and prosperity in our programmes and policies,” he said.
Speaking, the Zonal Vice Chairman of the Party, Chief Victor Gaidom, said, “We particularly resolved to ensure that the party emerges victorious in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election.”
He told journalists that the meeting was highly successful with very fruitful discussions which included their agreement to work for the unity of the party across the South-South states.
“We are using this opportunity to issue a warning to other political parties in Edo State, letting them know that the APC is ready to collect back the governance of the state,” he stated.
The party executives lauded Governor Otu over his leadership.
The APC state chairmen who attended the meeting were Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Cross River State Chairman; Chief Stephen Ntuk Ekpo, Chairman, Akwa Ibom State; Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman, Rivers State and Hon. Jarrett Tenebe, Chairman, Edo State.
