Former Manchester City defender, Micah Richards has hailed former Manchester United goalkeeper, Jack Butland despite being excluded from the latest England squad for the March international break.
England coach, Gareth Southgate selected Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, and Sam Johnstone, implying that Butland has been overlooked altogether.
Richards has, however, spoken out regarding Butland, calling him a confident goalkeeper and a talented player with a lot of self-belief.
He went on to say that Butland was highly anticipated as a goalkeeper, citing his impressive record with the Rangers.
Richards added that Butland required this type of confidence to be effective as a goalkeeper and commended him for having the self-assurance to back himself when things are going well.
“He’s just got that self-belief and I think that is what has got him back to even being in the question to be [in the squad]. I’m happy that he has potentially got a chance,” Richards said on The Rest is Football podcast.
England will face Brazil and Belgium at Wembley later this month
