The Adamawa State Government has insisted on the six-week timeframe given to all hotels to install closed-circuit television, CCTV, to survey hotel premises and monitor movements.
The government had given the order on January 22, 2024, after a woman was killed in Yola, the state capital, by a man who took her to a hotel and left her headless body in the room they checked into.
Deputy Governor Kaletapwa George Farauta reiterated the CCTV order on Tuesday when she received the report of a seven-man committee that investigated the killing of the woman at Happy Day Guest Inn, Yola.
Farauta said the government viewed the killing with seriousness and would not condone a recurrence.
Submitting the report of the killing, Adamawa State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Aloysius Babadoke, said there was significant compliance on the installation of CCTV for surveillance in hotels around the state.
Stressing that his ministry had intensified the sensitisation process towards avoiding future killings in any hotel, Babadoke mentioned some of the recommendations of his committee, including proper identification and registration of guests, facial recognition, metal detector use, and training of hotel staff
