Tears As Popular Nigerian Sports Journalist Dies

The Nigerian sports fraternity was thrown into pandemonium following the news of the death of prominent Sports journalist Kayode Tijani.

Tijani reportedly died at 55 years old on Wednesday night February 7, 2024, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja after a protracted illness.

Tijani’s death was confirmed by his sister, Dr. Ganiyat Tijani-Adenle, a senior lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU).

He will be buried according to Islamic rites on Thursday, February 6, 2024, at Atan Cemetery in Lagos.

The late Tijani was the Chief Executive Officer of SportsXclusive and Sports Focus International.

Tijani also worked as the Chief Press Secretary to the late former Minister of Sports, Chief Alex Akinyele.

The late Tijani, who started as a sports journalist in 1987, has travelled wide and far to cover sporting events across the globe. Worked at the Guardian Newspaper, Complete Football, Fame magazine, Channels TV and BEN TV in the United Kingdom before starting his own sports company.
